2000 Joshia de Jonge

A beautifully made Joshia de Jonge concert classical from her days working in her father’s Oshawa shop. The guitar shows off de Jonge’s building skills, and is an excellent example of why she has become such a highly acclaimed and respected luthier today. The guitar’s craftsmanship is exquisite, with beautifully mitred purflings throughout, hand-inlaid mosaic rosette, and the abalone pearl headstock detail that has become one of this builder’s trademarks.

Lattice braced spruce top (European or Englemann – it’s hard to tell), exquisite Indian rosewood back and sides, multilayered wooden purflings, rosewood headstock overlay with maple detail, rosewood de Jonge style bridge with inlaid bone tie block. Mahogany neck with ebony fretboard, 650mm scale, 51mm nut width, 58 string spacing at the bridge, and a flat fretboard with high crown, medium width 6015 fret wire for increased touch sensitivity. The tuning machines are Gotoh 510s with ebony buttons and bearing rollers which are not original to the guitar but a lovely upgrade.

French polish finish throughout with some touched up areas along the edges of the neck. There is one small repaired top crack near the treble-side waist, and the finish shows a fair number of fingernail dents on the treble-side of the top, string marks behind the bridge, and a respectable amount of playwear in general. The side and back finish shows markedly less wear.

A rich and warm sounding instrument with excellent balance and an intimately responsive touch. Set up with normal tension strings and an action of 2.8 – 3.5mm

With hardshell case
