2002 Joshia de Jonge Classical

Joshia de Jonge is among Canada’s most highly regarded classical builders, and is the eldest of Sergei de Jonge’s children. She has been building instruments since she was old enough to hold tools, and her craftsmanship and attention to detail is among the best in the world. This 20 year old Concert level classical shows that her skills were already incredibly well developed in 2002. The guitar’s build is perfectly executed, with flawless joinery throughout, master-grade tonewoods, and precise fretwork and set-up.

Indian rosewood and European spruce, lattice braced top, masterfully applied French polish finish. Rosewood body bindings with Padauk and maple purflings, mosaic rosette, and abalone pearl headstock detail. De Jonge designed bridge, engraved Ullsperger tuning machines, bone nut and saddle. 644mm scale, 50mm nut, 57mm bridge string spacing.

A strong and balanced guitar with some color in the bass register and clarity up top. The shorter scale and slightly narrow nut width make for a very comfortable playing experience.

There is some fingernail wear on the top and light scratching behind the bridge. Some other scratches and small dings can be found on the top. The edges of the headstock show some light wear from regular use as well. The balance of the guitar’s finish is in lovely condition. It is currently set up with normal tension strings and an action of 2.6mm to 4mm.
