2008 Oskar Graf Concert Cutaway Classical
Built with a Engelmann spruce top and Brazilian rosewood back and sides, the guitar features a traditional 7-fan top bracing pattern, French-polish finish, exquisitely mitred purflings and mosaic rosette. The guitar’s side purflings are 5-ply laminations of ebony, maple, and rosewood, which are consistent with the top’s purflings and inner and outermost rings of the rosette. Oskar’s commitment to design is truly ‘next level’.
Arguably, the most striking feature of this guitar is the unique cut-away design. Building a cut-away that allowed comfortable access to the highest frets is not an easy task with a Spanish-foot neck to body joint. Oskar rethought the problem from the ground up, and designed a cut-away that is integral to the Spanish foot, itself, and is a part of the neck’s carve. The design allows the player’s thumb to be well supported behind the neck, which, in turn, makes fretting those hard-to-reach notes much easier and comfortable to do. Oskar’s added a 20th fret fingerboard extension for the high E string, as well.
The guitar remains in excellent condition and is well set-up. There is very little playwear to the delicate French polish finish, and the action is set at a comfortable 3 to 3.5mm. A K&K Pure Classic pickup has been professionally installed. Jorg Graf tuning machines.
The neck features a 648mm scale, 50mm wide nut, and 60mm string spacing at the bridge.
