2013 Gretsch G6120 Eddie Cochran

Eddie Cochran was one of Rock n' Roll's earliest and most influential pioneers, despite his death at the incredibly young age of 22. His most well known song, Summertime Blues, has been covered by dozens of artists; and his music hugely influenced Bryan Setzer, George Harrison, Pete Townsend, Jimmy Page, and countless others. Cochran's guitar playing laid the foundations of Rockabilly, and has inspired players over the course of the 60 years since. His pioneering use of multi-track recording set the stage for the musical explosion that was just around the corner. Oh, and if you've ever bent a note on an unwound G string, you can thank Eddie Cochran for that too! Cochran was inducted into the Rock n' Roll hall of fame in 1987, and his customized 1955 Gretsch 6120 – the only guitar he ever played – has been displayed there since 1995.

Cochran's guitar was an early 6120 with western fingerboard inlays and G-brand on the lower bout. He modified the guitar with a P-90 pickup in the neck position, and he sanded the gold paint and Chet Atkins' name off the underside of the pickguard, leaving it see-through. It's a unique and distinctive guitar.

This recreation features the Cochran-spec clear pickguard and a Lindy Frailin P-90 pickup, mid-50's style 6120 appointments, gold Bigsby B6 with a vintage wide handle, and the same western motif inlays and G brand as the original. Polished aluminum bridge, Dynasonic lead pickup, orange finish, and Eddie Cochran signature on the truss rod cover.

It's a great sounding modern Gretsch, and a heck of a lot of fun to play. Set-up here at Folkway, and in excellent condition.
