2014 Gibson 1928 Blues Tribute

Gibson’s 1928 Blues Tribute is a small-body flat-top that’s proportioned after a late 1920’s L-1; the guitar that has become famous for being played by legendary blues musician Robert Johnson in his only known studio photo. A 12-fret model with a small 13-3/4” body and X braced top, the 1928 Blues Tribute is a punchy powerhouse with lots of mid-range focus, tight low end, and strong trebles that’s perfectly suited for ragtime and heavy-handed fingerstyle blues.

This example is in excellent condition and shows only the slightest playwear. Frets are unworn, set-up was just recently completed in our shop, and playability is excellent. We have it strung with D’Addario Nickel Bronze 12-53, which are a good match to the guitar. The neck has a medium depth C carve, 25” scale, string spacing of 2-3/16” and a nut width of 1-3/4”.

The body is assembled with hide glue and features an X-braced red spruce top with scalloped tone bars and non-scalloped X. Mahogany back and sides, white bindings, and a vintage gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Bone nut and saddle, vintage style tuners, and pearl headstock logo.
