2014 Gibson Custom Crimson Byrdland

Gibson Custom’s uppermost echelon of instrument builders constitute the Gibson Custom Crimson Team, a small subset of the company’s Custom Shop luthiers who are “held to the highest standards of craftsmanship and creativity” according to Gibson literature. Crimson-certified instruments come in all styles, designed and appointed individually by each Crimson Team builder. Presented here is a Custom Crimson Byrdland completed in 2014 and signed by archtop builder James Culbertson.

A lavishly appointed guitar, this Byrdland features a 17” wide, fully hollow, thin-body archtop body with multi-layer purflings, gold hardware, carved and hand-graduated top and back, L-5 accents, and some of the prettiest figured maple you’ll ever see on a guitar. Crimson-red nitrocellulose lacquer finish, pearl fretboard markers and headstock inlays, traditional Byrdland tailpiece, and bound tortoise celluloid pickguard.

The guitar’s neck has a round and full C shape with a 1-11/16” nut and first fret depth of .840”. The scale length measures 23.5”, which is the standard spec for the Byrdland model since its introduction in the mid 1950s. The pickups are Gibson ’57 Classics, with DC readings of 7.9k and 8.4k. The guitar weighs 7.4 lbs.

In beautiful condition and completely original, this Crimson Byrdland is nicely set up and shows little wear to its frets or finish. There is a small area of light belt scratches on the back but no other visible flaws.

With original hardshell case, COA, and case documents.
