2014 Gibson J-200 Jr, Montana Rose

Gibson’s J-200 Montana Rose is a limited production 16” small-jumbo that was built by the Bozeman Custom Shop in 2014. With the body dimensions of Gibson’s J-185 and the long scale and appointments of the flagship J-200, the Montana Rose offers something a little different to fans of Gibson’s Super Jumbo models. Montana Rose refers the to instrument’s deep red lacquer, which is said to be the color of a Montana Rose, according to Gibson’s original marketing. Sadly, they must not have yellow or pink roses in Montana. Or perhaps only red ones grow outside the Bozeman acoustic shop!

The guitar is a very lovely creation, and a well-thought-out hybrid of two otherwise fabulous guitars. It features highly figured maple back and sides with multi-layered bindings, J-200 pickguard, moustache bridge, and inlays, gold Kluson tuners with tulip buttons. The Sitka spruce top is scalloped-braced with a wide X angle, which delivers warmth, openness, and a well-developed bass. The 16” small jumbo body is famous for string balance and fat trebles. Put it all together and you have a wonderful strummer that’s even keeled and very rich.

In excellent condition and with very little playtime evident, this J-200 Jr shows no fretwear and is set up perfectly. It presents like a new guitar and has clearly been well cared for.

Mahogany neck with medium C carve, 1-11/16” nut, and 25.5” scale. Factory installed LR Baggs Element pickup system. Strap button added to the neck heel.

With original hardshell case and case documents
