2016 Gibson Les Paul R8

A particularly attractive Gibson Les Paul R8 with a figured maple top that looks just right for the era. Its gorgeous mild-fade sunburst finish is highlighted perfectly by very lightly aged hardware. The guitar has been played but remains in excellent condition and shows little finish wear. The frets and pickup surrounds show average wear for a 5-year-old guitar. Like nearly all Les Paul reissues with a stain-under-lacquer finish there is color bleed on the fretboard binding which hasn’t yet faded away. Many players consider this staining a badge of honour as it generally happens from playing the guitar, thanks to the heat in your hand accelerating the chemical process of the dyes migrating into the finish. It’s actually an historically accurate feature of these guitars and will fade over time, just like it has on an original 1958 Les Paul Standard.

The guitar is entirely original and has been set-up here in shop. The frets show some wear but still play cleanly, and the instrument’s finish is clean and largely without blemishes. There are light scratches if you look closely at the top, but not much to report on in that department.

Deep C neck carve with 1-11/16” nut. The neck feels substantial, but more ‘normal’ than other R8 necks that we’ve held. Playability is excellent. The guitar weighs in at 9.1 lbs.

With original case, COA and case candy.
