2017 Gibson F-9 Wideneck

This Gibson F-9 was custom-built with a wider (1-3/16”) nut width, and a radiused fingerboard. It’s a wonderfully comfortable F-style mandolin to play, particularly for those of us coming from a guitar background. Signed by David Harvey on May 7th, 2017, this F-9 has a big and open voice, lots of punch and power, and none of that nasal and overbearing midrange some lower-priced F-5 style instruments can be stricken with. It’s a remarkably good sounding instrument at any price, and an even better one at $4495 Canadian.

Figured maple and spruce, carved and hand tuned, tone-bar bracing, satin vintage sunburst finish, and top-only binding. It’s a simply appointed instrument to keep the pricing in check, but Gibson didn’t hold their punches when it came to build quality, playability, and tone.

In excellent condition and well set-up, this F-9 shows very light fretwear and some glossing up of the satin finish on the neck and under the player’s arm on the top.
