2017 Martin D-1 Authentic 1931
An amazing guitar, the D-1 Authentic creates its magic by combining a gossamer-light build with lots of air volume, a 12 frets-to-the body design, and a slotted headstock. The guitar weighs in a 3.75 lbs and sounds like it. There's no metal in the neck to add mass and zing, and the guitar has all the tonal hallmarks of a late 1920's 12 fret 000, but with so much more bass, depth, and expression. The D-1 captures so much of what we love about the best vintage guitars, and we are certainly very impressed.
Light forward-positioned scalloped bracing and red spruce VTS top, mahogany back and sides, vintage gloss finish, and hot hide glue construction. Hand-fit dovetail neck joint, 12 frets to the body, and 25.4” scale neck. Hand bevelled tortoise celluloid pickguard glued under the finish, black celluloid bindings, and unique single-ring celluloid rosette. Rosewood fingerboard, bridge, and headstock overlay; bone nut and saddle, brass Waverly style tuning machines.
The guitar features a V carved neck with a rounded hull and medium low depth, slotted headstock, 1-7/8” nut, and bridge pin spacing of 2-3/8”.
This example remains in excellent condition and shows minimal use. There are a few tiny dings on the top, and the lightest amount of wear to the frets. Set-up here with 5-7 action and 12-53 strings.
With deluxe Authentic series hardshell case, and original tags.
