2017 Oskar Graf Baritone Classical
Tuned to low B, this baritone is built with a scale length of 650mm on the treble side and 670mm on the bass. This combination of standard-to-long scale fretwork allows for a surprisingly ‘normal’ playing experience that is remarkably comfortable. The guitar is built with an elevated fretboard and features a Western red cedar top, Indian rosewood back and sides, Graf’s unmistakable, perfectly mitred purflings and exquisite craftsmanship, French polished top and lacquered body and neck. The body is larger than a standard classical, measuring 15” across the lower bout.
Most baritone guitars, whether classical or steel strung, are generally quite inspiring to play, but this Oskar Graf achieves an entirely different level of player reward. There is depth and character in droves, and a uniquely emotive tone offered. Beguiling? You bet. String balance is excellent, with articulation and clarity in the lows, and even single-note strength throughout the fretboard.
The guitar’s neck has a familiar classical feel that’s slightly rounder than a traditional Spanish carve. The nut measures 53mm on its angle and 52mm tangential to the strings. The saddle spacing is 61mm on angle and 58.5mm measured tangentially. Bone nut and saddle, ebony fingerboard and rosewood bridge, Swiss-made Schertler tuning machines featuring low friction integrated roller bearings and an 18:1 ratio.
The guitar is in exceptional condition and shows little playwear. It presents As-New. Set up with high tension strings with a low B added.
