2019 Gibson SG Special, Vintage Sparkle Burgundy

Gibson’s SG Special is a recreation of the company’s original SG Special model, which debuted in the early 1960s. Built in Nashville, this guitar features a lightweight mahogany body with set-in neck, small pickguard, P-90 pickups, gloss Nitro lacquer finish, and a bound rosewood fingerboard. It’s light, it’s plays fast, it sounds great, and looks extra-sharp with its sparkling burgundy finish, which can look like candy apple red in certain light.

This example is just about perfect. It’s in near-mint condition, shows no playwear, and has been set-up here at Folkway. Playability is heavenly.

The neck has Gibson’s ‘SlimTaper’ profile, meaning it has a carve similar to that of a ‘63/4 guitar, with a comfortably shallow depth and full 1-11/16” nutwidth. Fingerboard edges are rolled for comfort, and the frets are factory Plek-dressed.
