Collings OM2H SB Torrefied
Sunburst fans will likely agree that when it comes to spraying a nice one, few manufacturers do it better than Collings. We were instantly in love with this Sunburst OM2H at first sight. The OM2H is one of Collings Guitars' top selling models, which would come as little surprise to anyone who has played one. With its orchestra-sized body and big sound, the instrument is amazingly versatile and appeals to flatpickers and figerstylists alike. This OM2H was ordered with a 1-3/4" nutwidth, and a torrefied Sitka spruce top.
A pleasingly loud and responsive OM, this collings delivers headroom a’plenty, incredible string balance, and a clean, dry, and forward tone with plenty of sustain.
Collings carves the nicest necks in the biz. The 1-3/4 OM2H neck has a first fret depth of .870”, a 9th fret depth of .940”, and some distinctly 1930’s Martin genealogy. The first position is round and full, with a comfortable rolled fretboard edge and the slightest hint of V. Further up the neck its proportions remain consistent, which is something of a modern approach to an otherwise very traditional vintage carve. The fretwork is outstanding, and playability couldn’t get better.
Indian rosewood back and sides, torrefied Sitka spruce top, scalloped bracing with pre-war positioning, herringbone top trim and matching back strip, ivoroid bindings, ebony fingerboard and bridge, figured ebony headstock overlay, bone nut and saddle, gloss lacquer finish, and nickel Waverly tuning machines.
