David Martin Modified D
Martin’s workmanship is top tier; his assembly is immaculately clean inside and out, with details that are carefully attended to, and a design sense that is simple, but timelessly tasteful. The guitar is bound in rosewood with koa and rosewood purflings; the rosette calls upon the same mix of woods, which are accented by the colors in the tortoise-celluloid pickguard.
The neck has a medium depth D-shaped carve with a nut of 1-3/4” and strings that spread out to 2-1/4” wide at the saddle. Bone nut and compensated saddle, ebony pins, and high-precision Schertler nickel tuning machines.
With its larger D-sized body, Englemann top and tapered bracing, this David Martin offers a solid low-end response along with a lovely sparkle in the highs. The mid-range is slightly scooped and is nicely tinted by subtle overtones. Not a traditional or vintage voiced Dreadnought, this guitar brings a modern fingerstyle tonal pallet into a D-sized guitar, offering players a larger-bodied sound within a contemporary fingerstyle sonic framework.
