James Goodall Olive Grand Concert
This Grand Concert is a Hawaii-built Goodall which features olive wood back and sides and a master-grade Port Oxford cedar top with scalloped bracing. The guitar is meticulously crafted with mitred wooden purflings, bloodwood bindings, and abalone details. At 15” wide and 4-1/4” deep at the endpin, this Goodall is about the size of an OM but with deeper sides. It is built with a 25.4” scale and a 1-3/4” nut and is squarely aimed at the fingerstyle player. It offers an open, dry and throaty voice with a cavernous low end resonance and full-sounding trebles. String balance is excellent, and the guitar is a real joy to play. It's voicing marries some of what we love about lightly built old guitars, with the fidelity modern fingerstyle players expect.
The neck is carved of quarter-sawn maple and has a fairly chunky-feeling C to D profile. The 1st fret depth is .868”, and thickness at the 9th fret it .901”. String spacing at the saddle is 2-1/4”. Bloodwood-bound ebony fretboard with abalone slotted diamond inlays, bound headstock overlay to match the body, with abalone Goodall logo. Gotoh 510 low sheen brass tuning machines with acrylic faux horn buttons.
The guitar is in near-perfect condition and has been carefully set-up in our shop for fingerstyle playing with 12-54 strings. Apart from a ¼” dent in the lower center of the top the guitar is blemish-free.
