1922 Gibson A-Jr

Serial # 70026. The A-Jr was Gibson's entry level, no-frills A style mandolin, built between 1919 and 1927. To keep the cost down, the Jr. was sparsely appointed and simply finished; featuring no bindings, rosette, or headstock inlays. The instrument's finish was plain brown, and the tailpiece was a simple clamshell; even the tuning machines were simpler looking. But, all that said, the A-Jr was built the same way as any other Gibson A style mandolin. The top is carved of spruce, the back and sides are maple, and the neck, scale length, top brace, and headstock are consistent with the other models.

New Randy Wood bridge fit and installed by our shop, tuning machines replaced in the 1960's, older partial refret (first 8 frets); original pickguard, and tailpiece. Original finish shows minor damage around the bridge, and is worn through on the neck. There is a small section of repaired back/side seam as well. Fine playabilty, open and throaty sound with warm bass response.
