1925 Maurer Mandolin

Built by Larson in the mid 1920’s this bent-top Mandolin is a perfect showpiece of Larson design and workmanship. It’s an exquisitely ornamented and finely crafted instrument with beautiful pearl appointments and multicolored marquetry, multilayered purflings, engraved tuner plate and tailpiece, inlaid pickguard, and top-tier tonewoods.

The instrument is entirely original and in fabulous condition. You’ll find some playwear to the top’s finish on either side of the fretboard and a few isolated scratches here and there, but no repairs or damage other than a very tight hairline crack in the back that would be easy to miss. The original frets show little wear, and the set up and playability are excellent. The treble strings are powerful, full, and rounded, and the basses are articulate and well balanced.

13” scale, 1-1/8” nutwidth. The body is just shy of 9” wide and measures about 2.5” deep at the endpin.

Brazilian rosewood back and sides, bent spruce top with inlaid celluloid and pearl pickguard. Ebony fingerboard with pearl inlays, ebony bridge with bone saddle. Grained ivoroid bindings grace the body, fretboard, and soundhole. Flush neck heel, mahogany, rosewood, and maple neck, lacquer finish.
