1935 Cromwell G-4

Cromwell guitars were built by Gibson in the mid to late 1930’s and marketed through various catalog distributors. This one has a label that reads “New York Band Instrument Co.”

The G-4 is a 16” archtop built of solid spruce and mahogany with braced top and back. It features a sunburst top, single-bound body, a raised firestripe pickguard, and an adjustable rosewood bridge. Unlike other Cromwells, this example doesn’t have a white celluloid inlay down the center of the fingerboard.

The guitar is in excellent condition and without cracks but does have a few reglued back braces and changed tuners. Original frets and nut, original finish throughout. Rounded neck carve, 1-3/4” nut and 24.75” scale.

A surprisingly good sounding budget vintage archtop with a lot of style.
