1940 Kalamazoo Sport

FON # 1119F. At first sight this one won us over. We all wished that askids we had a guitar like this to learn on! The 3/4 size sport model byKalamazoo (Gibson's budget brand) was designed and marketed for the youngguitarists of the post-depression era. It is a Mahogany and Red spruce12-1/2" wide guitar with a scale length of 22-3/4", a nut width of 1-9/16,and a proportionally sized 3-1/4" soundhole. The top is bound in white, theback unbound, and the rosette is a simple white-black-white ring. Thisinstrument is original down to the bridge pins... the lacquer is still onthe bridge (and the pearl dots - or lack thereof - is an original feature). There are a couple of well-repaired top cracks and a bit of kid-stylepickwear, but this instrument looks like it's been played very little, judging by the absence of fretwear and tuning machine wear. The canvas caseis original, too. Just set up in our shop, this instrument plays very wellwith comfortable low action. Hey - it's cherry sunburst too! A few yearsearlier than you usually see this finish.
