1944 Gibson Banner LG-2

An incredibly clean Banner-era Gibson, this 1944 LG-2 boasts a particularly attractive and well-preserved sunburst finish. While Gibson guitars built during the war will often have oddities in terms of their specs and materials, this LG-2 sports the typical two-pieces Sitka spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and rosewood fingerboard and bridge of the late Banner era.

Offering a punchy voice with excellent low mid-range presence and overtone support, this LG-2 responds beautifully to fingerstyle playing or a light attack with a flatpick. With a nut width of 1-3/4", a first fret depth of 0.988", and a 12th fret depth of 1.043", the neck profile on this guitar is immensely comfortable, filling the hand perfectly but without being ‘too large’. Scale length is 24.75”, and string spread at the saddle is 2-1/8”.

The guitar offers great playability, with a refret completed here at Folkway and a neck reset completed elsewhere in the guitar's recent past. We have set the guitar up with 12-53 strings, and an action of 4.5-5 64ths at the 12th fret. Apart from the frets, bridge pins, and a new saddle made in-house, this guitar is completely original.

Our repair team cleaned up previous bridge and pickguard re-glues, which remain slightly visible. There is a minor finish repair at the guitar’s back where it meets the neck heel, but the reset is otherwise cleanly done. A previously repaired 3” back crack right near the edge of the treble-side’s lower bout has been locally touched-up, as well. The guitar presents beautifully with little obviousness to the few largely insignificant repairs it has.

With modern hardshell case.
