1944 Gibson LG-2 Maple

FON 1021-31. Among the most rare variants of the LG-2 is the wartime Banner model with maple back and sides. These are usually later Banner models, built when mahogany stocks were becoming quite depleted during the War. This example features a bookmatched spruce top, bookmatched back with black center stripe, darkly finished back and sides, and a sunburst top. Scalloped braces, five piece maple and mahogany neck, red beanwood fingerboard, rosewood bridge, and Kluson strip tuners.

The guitar is in beautiful condition and plays comfortably with easy action. Recent professional neck reset, Two repaired top cracks below the bridge, repaired pickguard crack, no back or side repairs, no brace repairs. Recent fret dress and set up by our shop, including new aged reproduction bone saddle.

The neck is large but perfectly manageable, with a round carve and 1-3/4' nut. Completely original but for Henkes and Blazer bridge pins and the saddle.

A very unique sounding guitar; all banner Gibson in its character, complexity and pallet of overtones, but with a dark clarity and subtle compression thanks to the maple back and sides.

With newer hardshell case
