1966 Gibson J-160E

The Gibson J-160E was introduced in 1954 as the company’s second acoustic/electric model after the CF-100E. The 160E gained fame thanks to its long-time association with John Lennon and, to a lesser extent, George Harrison.

This example has a replacement Lollar P-90 and a few crack repairs on its back but plays well and is set up nicely. Original finish throughout, original wire harness, modern replacement Kluson style tuners, original frets and nut, and original control knobs.

With its ladder-braced plywood top, the J-160E isn’t much of an acoustic guitar, but it certainly holds its own when plugged in. A unique amplified tone, the J-160 is clean and bright and a little bit of tube break-up treats it well. The Lollar P-90, while not original, is a nice choice for replacement. 1-9/16” nut, compact neck carve. Original frets are in good shape. Original finish is intact and shows average wear. There is some finish damage around the bridge from a previous reglue, and playwear by the soundhole. With hardshell case
