The instrument features Golden Era scalloped, forward shifted Adirondack spruce braces, Adirondack spruce top, and Madagascar rosewood back and sides. Vintage-style Herringbone purflings, grained ivoroid bindings, zig-zag back strip, gloss Nitrocellulose lacquer finish. 1935 profile ebony bridge and fingerboard with long-pattern vintage diamond and square inlays. Fossil ivory angled bottom nut, glued-in through-saddle, and black-dot bridge pins; polished, beveled edge pickguard. Vintage-inspired modified V neck carve, 1-3/4" wide at the nut, 1930's style 'Dart' volute, 1930's style decal logo, Gotoh SE-700 open geared tuners with vintage finish, C.F. Martin & Co. stamp on the headstock rear.
This Marquis is has had a couple of years to open up and mature, and has done so remarkably well. It's a dark and resonant flatpicker, with a strong rumble through the midrange.
One ¾" long suspect looking crack on the back that hasn't made its way through the finish, two minor dings on the treble side, otherwise a pretty much perfect example. The action is fairly slinky as it's currently set up, and the guitar is very nice to play. Hard-hitters will want us to raise the set-up a bit.
