2011 Santa Cruz H-13 Custom Lefty
Fantastically rich mids, airy and open basses that can thump along with a fatness and body or cut through with a change in attack, and robust and meaty trebles are what you'll discover in this one. It's a woody and resonant instrument, with a powerful fundamental and an excellent pallet of overtones. Tonally, the instrument most resembles a late 1920's 00 or 000-18, despite its esthetic lean towards things Gibson.
The H-13's body is loosely styled after Gibson's 1930's Nick Lucas model -- complete with an extra-deep body depth. Back and sides of South American mahogany, Sitka spruce top, scalloped and tapered bracing, ivoroid bindings and colorful 'H-29' purflings and back-strip. Bound ebony fingerboard and pyramid bridge; 13 fret neck, slotted headstock with pearl and abalone torch inlay, diamond volute, Waverly tuning machines. Stunning 30's vintage cherry sunburst lacquer finish, bevel-edged celluloid pickguard, bone nut and compensated saddle.
The neck has a soft V carve, with rounded sides, and a 1-3/4" width at the nut. It's reminiscent of a mid 1930's Martin neck, and very comfortable. Scale length is 25.4".
