In the late 1980s, amidst a world of mass-produced instruments of diminishing quality, Paul Reed Smith sought to build finely crafted instruments that were innovative while honouring the traditions and practices that seemed to have been lost in the late 1960s. Smith enlisted the help of Ted McCarty, Gibson's president from 1950-1966, to advise on guitar design and manufacturing process. In honour of their collaboration and friendship, Paul Reed Smith released the first McCarty model in 1994, an instrument that embodied the techniques and knowledge that Paul had gain from Ted.

A finely built solidbody electric, this 2018 PRS McCarty 594 is a remarkable guitar, all-around. The fit and finish are exquisite, playability is excellent, and the pair of vintage-voiced humbucker pickups sound fantastic. Combining classic tonewoods with a blend of both vintage and modern features, this McCarty 594 is a wonderful evolution of the PAF-equipped sunburst Les Pauls of the late 1950s.

Equipped with a pair of PRS 58/15LT humbucker pickups, this guitar delivers PAF-inspired tones that are full-bodied and dynamic with excellent chime and clarity in the top end. With a round '50s-style wide/fat neck carve, the guitar is immensely comfortable to play, and PRS's impeccable fret work makes for a guitar that performs flawlessly across the fingerboard. The birds inlays give it that classic PRS look.

A very lightly used guitar, this 2018 PRS presents in near-new condition. The original frets are almost entirely unworn, and there are no major finish blemishes to note. Apart from some light tarnishing on the hardware's nickel plating, the guitar is just about perfect.

Scale length of 25.5", nut width of 1-11/16", 1st fret depth of 0.896", and 12th fret depth of 0.984". Pickup DC values of 7.9K in the neck and 7.5K in the bridge. Weight of 7 lbs 12 oz.
