Martin D-42

As part of their standard series redesign announced in January of 2025, Martin’s long-famous and highly revered D-42 has been infused with a number tonal, cosmetic, and ergonomic improvements. The new D-42 can safely be considered the best version of this model since those made in the early 1940s.

Built with perfectly quartersawn Indian rosewood and master-grade Sitka spruce, the Y25 D-42 showcases the company’s best tonewoods and highlights them with Style 45 top purflings and pearl-work. The neck features Style 45 inlays and multi-layer bindings, gold tuners, an angled-bottom nut, and a new neck carve that’s more graceful than previous iterations. The fretboard’s edge is rolled comfortably, and the new GE-modified low oval neck has become our new favorite Martin carve.

The D-42 features Golden Era top bracing, with forward-positioned X scalloped bracing and a 1930s proportioned bridge plate that’s significantly smaller than any Standard Series model’s bridge plate since the mid 1960s. These are great sounding guitars.

Scale length is 25.4”, 1-3/4” nut width, 2-5/32” string spread at the saddle. Bone nut, saddle, bridgepins and end pin. Gloss lacquer finish, bevelled-edge tortoise celluloid pickguard.

With deluxe hardshell case.
