1931 Martin 00-40H
Professionally replaced fingerboard with T-frets, nicely made oversized replacement bridge with glued in bone saddle. Original tuners and shimmed nut; new 30's reproduction bridge pins, enlarged end-pin hole and replacement pin. Some top cracks were long ago repaired and cleated, and there is localized finish touch-up associated with the pair of these between the bridge and bottom edge of the top. A couple of well repaired cracks on the treble side Brazilian, and black light reveals associated overspray to that side that's not visible in daylight. No cracks in the back or bass side. A one inch section of backstrip has been replaced (see photo). Original finish is mostly intact, but does show some damage to much of the back. The top finish has lots of character marks, but nothing specifically noteworthy to report on. Neck angle is excellent, and the guitar's action measures in at 5 to 6 64ths at the 12th fret. The frets are in very good shape, and the guitar plays cleanly even under a moderate attack. Despite the somewhat long list of modifications this 00-40H is a remarkably fine instrument. Its bridgeplate and braces are all intact and in fine condition and its top is not bellied or bowed. A very comfortable guitar to play and one with a rich and darkly hued pallet of tone, wonderful and complex overtones, excellent string to string balance, and good volume.
With original hard shell case
