1938 Martin 000-28
Serial number 69735. Straight-grained quarter-sawn Brazilian Rosewood backand sides, Adirondack Red Spruce top, herringbone top purfling, zigzag backstrip, slotted diamond fingerboard inlays. 1 3/4" nut width, 24.9" scale.Scalloped top bracing. The bridge on this instrument is a non-original 60'sfootprint reproduction built and installed in our shop. We replaced a 60'smartin replacement with as accurate a repro as was possible, given theslightly incorrect foot-print. Note that this bridge is not oversized, butsimply differs in its footprint. The ivory saddle was reused from a 30'sMartin 0-17. The instrument is otherwise original, and in crack-freecondition. The action is on the high side, and we recommend a neck re-set toachieve optimal playability. We suspect that the guitar had had a refret inthe 60's when the bridge was replaced, but it is possible that these areoriginal frets - there is little evidence of any repair, and no thinning ofthe fingerboard. The tone is breathtakingly indescribable, as you would hopeand expect, and this 000 will deeply inspire anyone who plays it. Withoriginal hard shell case (in similar condition) and 1960's fitted casecover.
