Iwamoto F5

Handmade in Tokyo by luthier Takeshi Iwamoto, this F5 follows the classic Lloyd Loar F5 blueprint, complete with the familiar flowerpot peghead inlay, white/black/white bindings, and a tonebar-braced Adirondack spruce top. With its highly flamed maple back, sides, and neck, accurate carve, and ebony fittings this Iwamoto offers a thick, focused voice and a nice bluegrass chop, balanced by a warmth and depth that responds well to a lighter touch.

This example remains in excellent condition and presents almost as new, with almost no signs of use. The setup was just completed here, the frets are dressed well and play cleanly, and the radiused fingerboard adds to the comfortable feel. At 29mm wide, the nut is a touch shy of 1-3/16", but offers a lot more left hand room than a traditional 1-1/8” nut affords. The neck has a rounded V profile that sits nicely in the hand.

In use, this Iwamoto feels predictably like an F5. It offers headroom and volume when you need to cut through a mix, but remains rich and nuanced when played with a lighter touch.

Gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish, Gilchrist/Northfield tailpiece, Gotoh tuners, pearl truss rod cover, and adjustable ebony bridge.

With original hardshell case.
